Paulton's Park Visit for Local Residents
In what has become an annual event for the Lions, a day trip to Paulton's Park was organised and funded by the club (along with other clubs in the district) to allow a coach-load of deserving local residents that would otherwise be unable to visit (through lack of mobility or other special needs) a well-earned day of fun and excitement. On this spring's trip the sun shone and the trip went off without a hitch.
47 people travelled on the 52-seater coach with an additional minibus and people carrier taking another 18 between them.
The club is always keen to both practically support, and also donate funds to, projects of this nature which directly benefit local residents in need.
Sight First 2
More than 70% of blindness can be prevented or reversed. Every 30 seconds, 6 people go blind. Warminster Lions have contributed to international projects run through Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). These projects include Morfields Eye Hospital partnership providing an Eye Hospital in Ghana. LCIF has awarded a £750,000 grant towards this.
A donation of £100 to the Sight First 2 project can save the sight of 30 people.
The club will also be organising a sponsored 'Walk for Sight' during October 2008 to raise additional funds for this project.
Other Good Causes We Have Supported
Between July 2007 and June 2008 the club donated £15,311.00, through its Charitable Trust, to a wide variety of good causes. Some 80% of this money went to the BA12 area. A selection of beneficiaries of Lions fundraising are shown below.
